Nice pictures of Syria
November 8, 2006
I have been following the “Syria Looks” blog for some time so I am familiar with the pictures there…but I just noticed that the site source in flickr now is so much organized and there is great enjoyment in watching the pictures. There are so many historical, natural, everyday life, vacation pictures, pictures of so many areas.

It is just fascinating and makes you feel like you are there specially if you grew up or visited there. Please check it out and encourage independant photographers in Syria to promote Syria and give it a better image. Not everything we could do should be related to politics, we should do small gestures and encourage people inside Syria to improve their life quality and become more open to the world. Sites like ”Syria Looks” help in the cultural exchange process.
I have been off politics and blogging lately and I am taking a break (at least a month) until further notice. Sometimes you need to do it to recharge and rethink specially with images of death and wars everywhere in the region: Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon in the summer, watching arrogant people get their way. Although I did enjoy the symbolic gesture of Rumsfeld being fired.
PEACE and for a better region,
Fares

well, here in Beirut, am not very “far” away from my Syria, but i feel home, just by looking at my screen.
by the guys, i have been following you discussion with that Italian “boy”, indeed, and i felt there is something i need to be ask about?
how far do you think Hezbolla is a pro-Assad party? if not, do you blame it for the late war?
Best,
Razan

Syria is a beautiful country, I agree. But the problem with it is things it’s regime does. And even more dangerous are those who collaborate with it within Lebanon. Watch this:

In the memory of Pierre Gemayel.

well i am sorry for the Maronite’s loss. I have been living in Ashrafia for two years (Maronite are in Beirut) and as a Syrian, I have never been annoyed, not even at Hariri’s assasination, as i was now after Jmayel!
I think it is because of the how Christians, in Lebanon precisely, view themselves; that they are under constant threat by Islamic “Arab”, VS them the “Phoenicians “, under Palestinian armed threat, under Shia’a threat, Syria…
And, Bahir Jmayel still lives in the memory of Christians. They still mention his name on a daily basis. So Pierre’s death was really a very strong trigger to blast all the Christian Maronite paranoia!
And I do not buy this Assad-Lebanese-involvement theory! 14 of March is a very probable candidate of committing such crimes!
Peace to Iraq.
